ATC Tower Console Testing and Installation across Multiple Airports

Overview

EVANS console systems were supplied, delivered, installed and tested for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal under reference SF-79-2663, replacing existing operational ATC consoles across 10 airports: Biratnagar, Nepalgunj, Rumjatar, Rajbiraj, Dang, Sanfebagar, Doti, Phaplu, Thamkharka and Balewa. The work was completed on 25 April 2021 over a duration of 1 year and 4 months.

Scope & Deliverables

• Two-man position ATC console furniture installed at major airports, including Biratnagar and Nepalgunj.
• One-man position AFIS consoles installed at smaller hilly and mountainous airports, including Rumjatar, Phaplu, Thamkharka, Doti and Balewa.
• Rohde & Schwarz VHF equipment, Vaisala meteorological systems, and Total Recall digital voice recorders integrated at all 10 locations.
• VHF Multimode Digital Radio systems installed, 3 sets per airport, with computer-based remote control and monitoring for wide-area ATC applications.
• Solar power-based systems with 400Ah@C10 batteries and redundancy switches installed at airports with limited grid electrical supply, including Rumjatar, Doti, Sanfebagar, Phaplu, Thamkharka and Balewa.
• Installation carried out across remote Nepal locations with varied weather patterns and terrain; access to Doti, Phaplu and Thamkharka required over 3 days of travel.

Outcome

Console systems, VHF equipment, meteorological systems and digital voice recorders were commissioned and handed over to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal at all 10 airports. Each airport was equipped with a voice logging system, and locations with limited grid power were fitted with solar-based backup power and redundancy switching.
