Project Overview

Project Reference: SF-80-2734
Contract No.: ICB/O4IPROSECI2O79/80

The project involved the supply, delivery, installation, and testing of advanced dual-view cargo scanners and explosive trace detectors (ETDs) at Tribhuvan International Airport. Along with key accessories, factory acceptance tests, and comprehensive training programs, the project enhances aviation security, operational efficiency, and compliance with international standards. To strengthen aviation security standards at Nepal’s busiest gateway, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) commissioned the Supply, Delivery, Installation, and Testing of Explosive Trace Detector (ETD) and Cargo Scanner Machine. This project plays a crucial role in ensuring enhanced safety and compliance with global aviation security protocols.

Key Deliverables

The project involved the complete supply, delivery, installation, and testing of modern screening technologies for the domestic terminal. Major deliverables included:

✓ Cargo Scanner (Dual View): Equipped with advanced features such as Super enhancement, HI-TIP+, TIPS Library, SDTS, Barcode Reader, HI-Spots, Xplore, and Opti-Zoom for efficient cargo inspection.

✓ Explosive Trace Detector (ETD): Installed and tested with full accessories for high-precision detection of explosive materials.

✓ Supportive Equipment & Accessories: Operator console, external displays (luggage, X-ray hours, and operation hours), barcode reader hardware/software, UPS with battery bank, stainless steel chairs, pallet slider/roller table, and calibration toolkits.

✓ Training & Testing: Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), pre-shipment testing, technical maintenance training at the manufacturer’s facility, and local training for airport staff to ensure smooth operation and sustainability.

Impact

The integration of dual-view cargo scanners and ETD machines enhances security screening efficiency, accuracy, and reliability at TIA’s domestic terminal. These upgrades not only comply with international aviation safety requirements but also provide faster throughput, reduced operational downtime, and improved detection capabilities.

Conclusion

This project reflects CAAN’s commitment to advancing airport security infrastructure through the adoption of state-of-the-art screening systems. With extended training and robust support mechanisms in place, Tribhuvan International Airport is now better equipped to handle evolving aviation security challenges while ensuring passenger and cargo safety.
