Project Overview

Project Name: The Procurement and Installation of Equipment of Airport Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS) and Control Panel of Flood Lighting Systems
Project Ref.: MSI-PRJ-75-0358H
Project Duration: February 2021 – June 2022
Enhancing Safety and Efficiency at BWA

Airports serve as gateways that connect people, trade, and cultures. To ensure their smooth operation, modern airports require advanced infrastructure that supports both efficiency and safety. With this in mind, Gautam Buddha International Airport (BWA) has taken significant steps to upgrade its electrical and lighting systems through the project:

Scope of Works

The project primarily focused on strengthening the airport’s airside operations by introducing modern electrical control solutions. Key works included:

- Installation of LV Control Panel: Designed to streamline and manage the low-voltage power supply for lighting systems.

- LV Main Distribution & Control Panel: Centralized power distribution system ensuring reliable, uninterrupted electricity flow to support airport lighting infrastructure.

These upgrades form the backbone of the Airport Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS), a vital system that allows operators to monitor and control runway, taxiway, and apron lights seamlessly. In addition, the installation of the Flood Lighting Control Panels ensures safe and well-lit apron areas, improving night-time visibility for aircraft movements, ground operations, and overall passenger safety.

Collaboration and Delivery

This project was executed under the expertise of Northwest Civil Aviation Airport Construction Group Co., Ltd., with CAAN as the end user. Over the course of nearly 16 months from February 2021 to June 2022, the works were completed in alignment with international airport standards.

Strengthening Nepal’s Aviation Future

With Gautam Buddha International Airport emerging as a key international gateway to Nepal, such infrastructural enhancements are vital for positioning the airport as a safe, reliable, and modern aviation hub. By modernizing its lighting and control systems, the airport is better equipped to handle increasing passenger traffic, enhance night operations, and ensure compliance with global aviation standards.

This project reflects not only a technical milestone but also a significant step forward in supporting Nepal’s growing aviation sector and stands as a testament to the continuous modernization efforts driving safer and more efficient airport operations at Gautam Buddha International Airport.
