Project Overview
Overview
Mahavir Shree International Pvt. Ltd. installed Smiths Detection X-ray baggage screening systems at Biratnagar Airport, Nepal. Client was not specified in project records. The installation replaced a largely manual baggage-check process. Completion date was May 1, 2024, with a project duration of 1 year 2 months. Industry classification: aviation security / transportation.
Scope & Deliverables
- HS 100100T X-ray scanner for hold baggage: designed for large/oversized baggage and freight, low conveyor for handling, HiTrax electronics, wire detectability of AWG 38, HI MAT Plus material differentiation.
- HS 6040-2is HR X-ray scanner for hand baggage: compact and lightweight (under 850 kg), dual-view technology, 35 mm steel penetration capability, sized to fit standard 900 mm door widths, high-resolution operator interface.
- Site preparation: metal and carpentry work, electrical cable routing beneath marble flooring, and space partitioning between airline counters and the scanner systems.
Outcome
The two Smiths Detection X-ray systems were installed and integrated into Biratnagar Airport's daily operations, removing the need to physically open bags for hold and hand baggage screening. Site work required metal, carpentry, and electrical adjustments to fit the systems into the airport's existing space and infrastructure constraints. At the time of handover, CAAN (Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal) had not yet trained personnel to operate and maintain the new systems.
