Power Supply Enhancement at Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA)

Overview

Mahavir Shree International Pvt. Ltd. carried out a power supply improvement project at Gautam Buddha International Airport Civil Aviation Office (GBIACAO) for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), under reference SF-79-2668. The scope covered a 400 kVA transformer, an 11 kV line extension, switchover arrangements, and associated electrical works for the CFR Station, along with other miscellaneous works. The project was completed in April 2023, over a duration of one year.

Scope & Deliverables

• Installed a 400 kVA transformer and extended an 11 kV line, including switchgear arrangements
• Extended a 32A power supply to the new VOR station, complete with a TP MCCB, energy meter, and accessories
• Installed a 100A on-load manual changeover switch for transition between mains and generator supply
• Supplied and installed 4-core, 16 sq. mm. armored copper cables for LV power distribution
• Installed 3-phase distribution boards with MCBs
• Installed earthing systems comprising copper-bonded rods, continuity conductors, and earth-enhancing compounds
• Installed TOD meters and metering units for energy measurement
• Erected 11-meter concrete and steel poles for the power line extension
• Supplied and installed 11 kV lightning arrestors, drop-out fuse sets, disc and pin insulators, and associated fittings
• Provided a two-year warranty on all materials, with spare parts availability assured for at least 10 years

Outcome

The power supply improvement works, including the 400 kVA transformer, 11 kV line extension, and switchgear arrangements, were completed and integrated at GBIACAO. The system provides power distribution to airport facilities including the VOR station and CFR Station, with manual changeover capability between mains and generator supply.
