Project Overview

Overview

The project covered the supply, delivery, installation, and commissioning of ceilometer, visibility, and present weather sensor systems at Rajbiraj and Manthali Airports, commissioned by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), Government of Nepal. Work was carried out between February 2022 and July 2022.

Scope & Deliverables

  • Installation of combined visibility and present weather sensors at Rajbiraj and Manthali Airports
  • Deployment of ceilometers for cloud height measurement
  • Provision and setup of obstruction lights, all-in-one PCs, monitors, optical fiber cables, power cables, media converters, switches, and accessories
  • Self-diagnostic sensors using downward-looking forward scatter technology, capable of differentiating precipitation types and measuring intensity and accumulation
  • Sensors meeting WMO 4680 standards, with traceable calibration, heating for icy conditions, and mounts compatible with existing meteorological masts
  • Optional field calibration kit for all-weather operations

Outcome

The ceilometer, visibility, and present weather sensor systems were installed and commissioned at Rajbiraj and Manthali Airports, along with associated infrastructure including obstruction lights, computing equipment, and cabling. The airports now have combined visibility, present weather, and cloud height monitoring calibrated to WMO 4680 standards.
