Aeronautical Ground Lighting Systems (AGLS) and Airfield Light Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS) at Surkhet Airport
Supply, installation, and testing of AGLS and ALCMS at Surkhet Airport, Nepal, for the Electromechanical Department, CAAN.
Project Overview
Overview
This project, reference SF-79-2662, was carried out for the Electromechanical Department of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) at Surkhet Airport, Nepal. The scope covered modernization of the aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) infrastructure and implementation of an Airfield Light Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS), executed in compliance with CAAN technical specifications, procurement procedures, and international aviation standards. The project ran 11 months and 27 days and was completed in October 2024.
Scope & Deliverables
- Runway edge, threshold, end, and turn pad LED lighting systems.
- Runway Threshold Identification Light (RTIL) system and obstruction lights for towers and masts.
- High mast apron flood lighting system with lightning protection and power distribution boards.
- AGL isolating transformers, primary and secondary cables, connector kits, and earthing systems.
- Control and monitoring infrastructure: Constant Current Regulators (CCRs), an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR), a UPS, a PLC panel, and the ALCMS desk.
- Civil works including ducting, manhole construction, transformer chambers, and foundations.
- Training and documentation, pre-shipment testing, and system integration.
Outcome
The AGL and ALCMS installations at Surkhet Airport were tested and commissioned and handed over to CAAN's Electromechanical Department. Training and documentation were delivered alongside the equipment. Surkhet Airport now has upgraded runway and apron lighting together with a centralized control and monitoring desk for airfield lighting operations.
