The project “Supply, Delivery, Installation, Testing, and Operation of Baggage Handling System at Existing Arrival Baggage Claim Area, International Terminal Building, TIA” involved modernizing the outdated baggage handling system at Tribhuvan International Airport. The new system was designed to improve efficiency, reliability, and security for the airport’s increasing passenger and baggage traffic.
Key Deliverables
✓ Supply, delivery, and installation of Arrival Baggage Feeding Conveyors (lengths 3.8m and 2.5m)
✓ Supply and installation of Arrival Baggage Carousels
✓ Integration of roller decks, fire-rated security roller doors, and draft curtains
✓ Design, supply, and installation of SCADA system for monitoring and fault detection
✓ UPS backup and power/control cable installation for SCADA system
✓ Interfacing and testing with Baggage Screening System and accessories
✓ Final acceptance testing (FAT) and site operation
✓ On-site training for 10 personnel over 6 days
✓ Technical maintenance training for 4 engineers at manufacturer’s facility for 10 days
✓ Supply of spare parts and defect liability maintenance service
Impact
The project significantly enhanced baggage handling operations at Nepal’s only international airport by reducing system downtime, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening security. SCADA integration enabled real-time monitoring and rapid fault diagnosis, ensuring minimal disruption to flight operations. This upgrade also positioned Tribhuvan International Airport to handle higher passenger volumes and future operational demands.
