Supply, Installation and Operation of Baggage Handling System at TIA Arrival Area

Overview

The project covered the supply, delivery, installation, testing, and operation of a baggage handling system at the existing arrival baggage claim area of the International Terminal Building, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Nepal, for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), under Contract No. ICB/12/PROSEC/2015, Package B (Re-Invitation), project reference MSI-PRJ-76-002. The work replaced the airport's existing baggage handling system and was completed over a duration of 7 months, with completion recorded on 19 October 2016.

Scope & Deliverables

• Supply, delivery, and installation of arrival baggage feeding conveyors, in lengths of 3.8m and 2.5m
• Supply and installation of arrival baggage carousels
• Integration of roller decks, fire-rated security roller doors, and draft curtains
• Design, supply, and installation of a SCADA system for monitoring and fault detection, including UPS backup and power/control cable installation
• Interfacing and testing with the Baggage Screening System and accessories
• Final acceptance testing (FAT) and site operation
• On-site training for 10 personnel over 6 days
• Technical maintenance training for 4 engineers at the manufacturer's facility over 10 days
• Supply of spare parts and defect liability maintenance service

Outcome

The baggage handling system was tested, commissioned, and handed over to CAAN for operation at TIA's arrival baggage claim area. On-site personnel and engineers received the training listed above, and spare parts with defect liability maintenance service were provided. The SCADA system provides real-time monitoring and fault detection for the installed conveyors, carousels, and associated equipment.
