Overview

Mahavir Shree International Pvt. Ltd. upgraded the central air-conditioning system of the International Terminal Building at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu, Nepal, for CAAN, Tribhuvan International Airport Civil Aviation office, under reference MSI-PRJ-72-001. The scope covered supply, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning, and handing over of the specified equipment, accessories, and associated works, replacing the existing R-22 based system with a year-round heat pump air-conditioning system providing both heating and cooling, supported by heat pump-type air-cooled chillers. The project was completed on 6 December 2016, over a duration of 7 months and 8 days.

Scope & Deliverables

  • Heat pump-type air-cooled chillers, AHU units, chilled water piping connections, air distribution system, and insulation
  • Electrical panels and switchgears (DB, MCB, MCCB), electrical power and control cabling with earthing, and associated accessories installed per layout and drawings
  • Fresh air supply maintaining approximately 10% ventilation for CO2 control
  • Dismantling and relocation works: removal of existing refrigerant piping, ductwork dismantling, and removal of AHU and condensing units
  • Electrical works associated with the dismantling and new installation

Outcome

The upgraded system was commissioned as a heat pump-based hydronic air-conditioning system for the International Terminal Building, replacing the obsolete R-22 equipment and reclaiming the R-22 refrigerant for environmental compliance. Work was carried out to international HVAC standards and to CAAN's documentation, safety, and workmanship requirements, and the system was handed over to CAAN, Tribhuvan International Airport Civil Aviation office.
