
High Mast Illumination at Tribhuvan International Airport
MSI installed and commissioned high-mast lighting systems at Tribhuvan International Airport's apron, helipad, and parking areas for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.

Mahavir Shree International Pvt. Ltd. carried out the "Supply, Delivery & Installation of Apron Mast Lights and Accessories" project for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Nepal's only international airport. The work covered high-mast lighting installations across the international and domestic apron areas, helipads, and remote parking bays. The project ran for a duration of 1 year and 6 months and was completed on 15 May 2021, in accordance with ICAO illumination standards.
Scope & Deliverables
- Installed 9 units of 25-meter Valmont High Masts and 1 unit of 16-meter mast.
- Fitted the masts with CREE LED Flood Lights (420W and 523W) and Avlite Twin Aircraft Obstruction Lights.
- Executed the work in four packages: Package A — 2 high masts at the domestic apron near the VVIP lounge; Package B — helipad installation; Package C — LED flood lights at bays 5, 6, and 7; Package D — cargo parking and airside areas.
- Wired independent MCC bands and MCBs for each mast for individual electrical control and redundancy, with power supplied from the P0 parking station.
- Installed timer-controlled lighting for domestic operations, with flood lights controlled from the Air Traffic Control tower.
- Completed civil and structural works — foundations, cabling, and mast erection — coordinated across day and night shifts to allow uninterrupted airport operation during construction.
- Conducted joint functional testing with CAAN and MSI teams to verify ICAO-compliant illumination performance.
Outcome
The high-mast lighting system was tested, commissioned, and handed over to CAAN, providing illumination across TIA's apron, helipad, and parking areas — including taxiing routes — for dusk-to-dawn operation.
