Meteorological & Weather Observation Systems

Aviation weather observation systems, upper-air radiosonde stations, ceilometers, visibility sensors, and lightning detection networks — supplied, installed, and commissioned for CAAN and DHM.

MSI delivers meteorological systems for aviation and national weather services in Nepal: aviation weather observation systems (AWOS) at airfields, upper-air sounding stations, cloud-base and visibility sensors, and lightning detection networks — including the civil works, power, and data links each site needs.

What MSI supplies

  • AWOS met parks: ultrasonic wind sensors (ISO 16622), pressure, temperature/humidity sensors, data loggers, and ATC tower MET displays
  • Upper-air radiosonde systems for atmospheric sounding
  • Ceilometers and visibility / present-weather sensors
  • Lightning detection networks and lightning protection for radar stations
  • Solar power, fiber data links, frangible masts, and earthing to ICAO Annex 3, ICAO Annex 14, and WMO requirements

Weather infrastructure across Nepal

MSI has installed meteorological systems across Nepal for both CAAN and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) — a single AWOS programme covered 18 domestic airports, alongside an upper-air radiosonde station, ceilometer and visibility sensor installations, and a national lightning detection network. A selection of delivered projects is shown below; the delivery record extends beyond it.
